Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant
|
After more than two decades of building and rebuilding and the longest licensing battle in U.S. history, the Tennessee Valley Authority's Watts Bar nuclear plant began loading fuel Friday, Nov. 10, 1995 at the facility in Knoxville, Tenn. The $6.8 billion plant has been under construction since 1972. Watts Bar is the last of the current generation of nuclear reactors in this country. None of this country's other 109 commercial reactors have taken longer to license and perhaps none have been more villified by its own workers.
