Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant

The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant is shown in this Dec. 12, 1997 photo, in Vernon, Vt. A report released by the Vermont Department of Public Service in January 1999 says the plant provides one-third of the state's electricity. It also found it would be more costly to close the plant early than to keep it operating until its license expires in 2012.
