Job Summary
Surry Nuclear Power Station is searching for a Manager Nuclear Construction. This position provides management and direction for the execution of all capital and major nuclear plant modification projects. Participate in defining the overall implementation strategy of projects. Provide executive updates and progress reports as directed. ?Responsible for developing the staffing plan to meet project objectives. This position is expected to have a staff including direct reports, contractors, and matrixed employees. Manage large and/or multiple engineering, procurement, and construction firms to implement assigned projects. This position may entail management of multiple projects or large scope areas within a single project. Participate in project reviews both internally and externally. Assist Director and others with forecasting project scope, schedule, and cost performance.
Direct necessary resources including construction and administration to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely and cost effective manner. Manage and control capital budget for the Station. Monitor and review the progress and performance of staff to ensure personnel, procedures and materials are in accordance with the guidelines. Maintain a high quality of work. Report to management on the progress and status of projects including budget, cost, schedule, and major problem areas. Schedule, plan, and prioritize daily activities for project controls and construction departments. Responsible for station housekeeping, vehicle maintenance, and tool control.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
-8+ years demonstrated proficiency in leading and directing large capital projects and modifications; including managing a contractor workforce.
-8 years of experience planning, execution, testing and close-out of large projects.
-Superintendent or Manager level expereience.
-Demonstrates visible, accountable leadership for safety in all field operations.
-Establishes and reinforces a strong safety culture by proactively identifying hazards, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and holding self and others accountable for safe work practices.
-Integrates safety into planning, execution, and decision?making to protect employees, contractors, and the public.
-Demonstrated strong communication with other managers as well as direct reports;
-Ability to provide clear direction and expectations;
-Ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels in organization;
-Demonstrated presentation skills to large groups of employees;
-Strong interpersonal skills to work with multiple groups;
-Ability to motivate and lead an organization with limited direction;
-Ability to foster teamwork at the manager and worker level by communicating needs and expected outcomes;
-Ability to move resources across the organization to the most critical areas to improve overall performance;
-Demonstrated capability to follow up on performance shortfalls and to get organization to respond;
-Broad knowledge of programs and functions across the station;
-Ability to perform general supervisory administrative duties including, but not limited to, budget control, employee performance reviews, coaching, and correcting;
-Knowledge of accounting practices/rules associated with capital expenditures.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Bachelor
Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering, Construction Management
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
