Expected salary range of $178,200 to $198,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

Location

While this role offers remote flexibility, our ideal candidate will live in the greater Houston, TX area and have the ability to work on-site at our Houston office locations as needed. 

The role requires frequent travel, including overnights. Up to 25% travel is anticipated annually.

 

Primary Purpose of Position

The role of the Senior Originator is to identify and execute opportunities to optimize and grow the Company's wholesale natural gas marketing portfolio while developing and maintaining relationships with natural gas suppliers (producers, transport and storage) and end-use customers. This role requires someone to be a self-started & ready to make an immediate impact with a proven track record of originating and closing profitable transactions. The individual will be a strong team player with a focus on developing a collaborative culture with internal Company stakeholders. This individual will be able to understand customers' business issues and opportunities as well as establish and maintains relationships with key influencers in the marketplace. This individual shall initiate and proactively respond to competitive analysis of market information regarding customers and competitors. Key responsibilities include responsibility for deal functions including preparation of product offering, delivery arrangements, contract negotiations, internal approval process, mid/back-office coordination and follow-through. Candidate must have ability for frequent overnight travel for client meetings and conferences. This individual shall develop or have and maintain a thorough understanding of the physical delivery capabilities and supply demand balances in the market region, with detailed understanding of tariffs, operating procedures, and physical capabilities. Also, this candidate will be proficient in developing, pricing and marketing financial derivative products either as a stand-alone product or as an imbedded option. Partner with Trading, Portfolio Management, Risk Management and back office functions to insure deal profitability. A successful candidate will be capable of excelling in either a Mid-Marketing Origination or Structured Origination organization.

 

Primary Duties and Accountabilities

 

  • Originate new transactional opportunities that enhance earnings, reduce risk or otherwise optimize the Company's wholesale gas portfolio and manage relationships with new and existing suppliers and customers.
  • Develop a business plan and market strategy for the target markets for which the Originator will lead.
  • Develop and implement strategies to shape gas and power marketplace structures and regulatory frameworks.
  • Lead the internal deal team through all aspects of a complex approval process to successful deal execution.
  • Serve as the internal and external expert on all issues impacting individual customers in the target markets.
  • In-person attendance for training, all-hands meetings, and other meaningful engagements.
  • Travel required as necessary to meet business needs.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business and 8 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of experience in lieu of the degree
  • 8 years of experience in gas or power trading, renewable energy marketing, or origination
  • Demonstrated knowledge of North American natural gas and regional markets and market design
  • Experience with financial concepts, financial markets and wholesale energy markets, energy commodities markets, hedging and/or position management
  • Demonstrates strong capabilities in negotiating complex terms of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions, financial analysis of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions
  • Wholesale transactional experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written
  • Experience working in a fast paced and highly collaborative environment with internal and external partners
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data modeling) and PowerPoint

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Transactional experience with natural gas pipelines, producers, storage, power generators 
  • Specific knowledge of the Texas, Gulf, and West region including pipelines, storage facilities, gas producers, and other wholesale market participants
  • Master's Degree in Busines
