Interns will apply academic theory, develop processes based on specific discipline, conduct research and perform analysis on assigned projects for the Safety and Compliance department. The HSE Intern supports a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace by ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements. This role identifies and mitigates workplace risks, conducts inspections and investigations, and provides training and guidance to employees and contractors. The position promotes a strong safety culture and continuous improvement to protect people, assets, and the environment.

Program Summary

• May 2027 through August 2027 (11 weeks) internship program
• Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the program
• Work location: Eunice, NM

Compensation

• Paid Internship $21/hour paid bi-weekly

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program for HSE related (e.g. OHS, EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology) majors and minors.
• Must have completed at least two years in a college / or university setting prior to the start of the internship program (for example, you must be starting either your Junior or Senior year)
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain site access authorization and applicable security clearances.
• Strong safety mindset and willingness to work in an industrial environment.2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access and successfully pass a security clearance, background verification and drug free screening process
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Confidential information includes information and data of any kind concerning any matters affecting or relating to Urenco business or operations, including compensation, investigations, financial controls, etc.

Essential Functions

• Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazards and ensure compliance with HSE requirements.
• Support incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking.
• Assist with risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and development of risk mitigation measures.
• Deliver and coordinate HSE training, orientations, and safety awareness programs for employees and contractors.
• Monitor compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, permits, and industry standards.
• Maintain HSE records, reports, metrics, and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response efforts as required.
• Promote a positive safety culture through field engagement, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on HSE best practices and safe work procedures.
• Support environmental compliance activities, including inspections, waste management, and spill prevention efforts.
