Hanford Tank Farm
|
These million-gallon double-walled carbon steel tanks are built to hold high-level nuclear waste from Hanford's plutonium production program. They are meant to replace Hanford's older, single-walled tanks which have, according to a November 1986 US General accounting Office report, leaked approximately 500,000 gallons of high-level radioactive waste into Hanford soil. 200 Area, Hanford Reservation, Richland, Washington. November 16, 1984.
