Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is the nation’s premier plutonium center of excellence, supporting the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile while advancing science and technology across a broad range of national security missions. The Pit Technologies Division, within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production, delivers plutonium pit-related products and services in a high-hazard nuclear manufacturing environment. We are seeking a Manufacturing Manager 3 to serve as First-Line Manager for the PT-2 Plutonium Machining Group. You’ll lead precision machining operations, ensure effective use of CNC machining tools, strengthen safety and quality performance, and support key programmatic milestones. This is a regular, onsite position in Los Alamos, NM, with a salary range of $141,500 - $238,300.
Responsibilities:
• Lead daily precision machining and processing operations within a dynamic nuclear manufacturing environment
• Oversee the effective use of CNC machining tools while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, conduct of operations, engineering, and maintenance requirements
• Develop work scope, coordinate activities, plan tactical execution, and track and report progress against programmatic commitments
• Implement process improvements and resolve complex operational challenges using sound technical judgment and critical thinking
• Supervise, motivate, mentor, and develop employees, including students and early-career scientists and engineers, while building a high-performing team
• Interpret detailed written and verbal instructions, maintain clear technical documentation, and accurately manage information using computer systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and stakeholders to support manufacturing excellence and mission execution
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven technical leadership experience, including supervision, conflict resolution, mentoring, team building, staffing, employee motivation, and personnel development
• Experience developing work scope, coordinating activities, planning and managing tactical execution, and tracking and reporting progress
• Familiarity with machining manufacturing environments and nuclear facility requirements, including conduct of operations, engineering, and maintenance standards
• Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and customer communication skills across all levels of personnel
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and Human Reliability Program (HRP) enrollment (U.S. citizenship required)

• Knowledge of Integrated Work Management and Integrated Safety and Security Management methods
• Experience with high-hazard nuclear facility operations, safety authorization basis requirements, and Conduct of Operations planning and execution
• Proficiency with computer systems used for data management and technical documentation
