The plant opened in 1962, after Atomic Energy Commission extrusion work at Bridgeport Brass in Adrian, Michigan ended in 1961 and much of its work moved to RMI. It extruded depleted, normal and slightly enriched uranium into fuel and target elements for the Hanford and Savannah River production reactors. Uranium billets came from Fernald, Ohio, and Weldon Spring, Missouri. A small wastewater evaporation pond on the property was closed in 1984. Production ended in 1988, and decontamination and decommissioning work was completed in November 2006.
