Construction began in 1958. Unit 1 (AMB-100) was connected to the grid on April 26, 1964, and Unit 2 (AMB-200) on December 29, 1967. Unit 1 was permanently shut down in 1981 and Unit 2 in 1989. The BN-600 fast reactor (Unit 3) began operation on April 8, 1980. The BN-800 (Unit 4) reached first controlled fission on June 27, 2014, and was connected to the grid on December 10, 2015.
