Construction began in 1969. The plant had a single Siemens boiling water reactor, which was connected to the grid on 13 July 1976. The unit was taken off line in 2007 and did not return to service. It was permanently shut down on 6 August 2011, following the German decision to end nuclear power after the Fukushima accident.
