Construction began in 1974, and the units were first connected to the grid between March 1980 and August 1981. On 2 April 2001, during a refueling outage of unit 4, fuel assemblies were loaded in the wrong pattern, with about 30 percent of the core being MOX fuel. The core was fully unloaded, and the event was rated level 1 on the International Nuclear Event Scale, then reclassified to level 2 in 2007. On 9 April 2007, unit 3 lost external power and ran on emergency generators overnight.
