Four second-generation pressurized water reactors were built here. Construction began on Doel 1 on 1 July 1969, Doel 2 on 1 September 1971, Doel 3 on 1 January 1975 and Doel 4 on 1 December 1978. They were connected to the grid on 28 August 1974, 21 August 1975, 23 June 1982 and 8 April 1985. Doel 3 was permanently shut down on 23 September 2022, Doel 1 on 14 February 2025, and Doel 2 on 30 November 2025.
