Construction began in the early 1970s. On 3 May 1975, two bombs exploded during construction, causing damage and delay but no injuries. Unit 1 was first connected to the grid in April 1977 and unit 2 in October 1977. Unit 1 was permanently shut down on 22 February 2020, and unit 2 on 30 June 2020.
