The plant opened in 1970 as the Jersey Nuclear Company, with three buildings. Over the following decades it carried the names Exxon Nuclear, Siemens Power Corporation, Framatome ANP and Areva NP. The Framatome name returned in 2018, after Areva sold part of its business to EDF. Accident tolerant fuel from the plant was first shipped to U.S. customers in 2019.
