Construction of Unit 1 began on 21 November 2008. Units 1 to 4 are Chinese-built pressurized water reactors, and construction of Unit 4 resumed in November 2012 after a delay caused by China's post-Fukushima safety review. Units 5 and 6 are Hualong One (HPR1000) reactors, announced in November 2014, with construction beginning on 7 May 2015 and 22 December 2015. The six units were connected to the grid between 20 August 2014 and 1 January 2022. In October 2020 Unit 5 became the first Hualong One to reach criticality.
