Construction began in the mid-1970s and the plant took about seven years to build, with work spanning 1974 to 1981. The plant had a single Siemens pressurized water reactor of the Vor-Konvoi design. It was connected to the grid on 30 December 1981 and was permanently shut down on 27 June 2015.
