Construction began in 1964. The plant had a single-loop Westinghouse pressurized water reactor of about 160 MWe. It was connected to the grid on 14 July 1968. A ministerial order closed it in 2006, and it was permanently shut down on 30 April 2006. Westinghouse won contracts to dismantle the reactor internals in 2010 and the reactor pressure vessel in 2013, and dismantling of the containment building began in November 2019.
