The Kalinin nuclear power plant is in Tver Oblast, Russia, near the town of Udomlya, about 200 km northwest of Moscow. It has four VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors.

Construction of Unit 1 began on February 1, 1977. Unit 1 was connected to the grid on May 9, 1984, and entered commercial operation in June 1985. Unit 2 followed on the grid on December 11, 1986. Work on Units 3 and 4 began in 1985 and 1986, and they were connected to the grid on December 16, 2004, and November 24, 2011.
