Construction began in 1981, and the units were first connected to the grid in October 1987 and December 1988. On 30 September 2005, water was accidentally sprayed onto electrical cabinets and a reactor shut down automatically, with no injuries or radiation release; the event was rated level 1 on the International Nuclear Event Scale. On 5 December 2011, nine Greenpeace activists cut through a fence, climbed onto the roof of a reactor building and displayed a banner.
