Work on the main facility area began on October 20, 1943. The four-story main process building was completed in 1944 with about 5.26 million square feet of floor space. Production began in February 1945, and the first product went to the Y-12 calutrons in March 1945. Gaseous diffusion ceased on August 27, 1985. The site was renamed the Oak Ridge K-25 Site in 1989 and the East Tennessee Technology Park in 1996. Demolition of the main K-25 building was completed by 2014.
