The Atomics International division of North American Aviation designed the plant, which used an organic-cooled, organic-moderated reactor rated at 45.5 MW thermal, with a terphenyl oil as the coolant. Fuel loading was completed in July 1963, and the reactor reached full power on January 27, 1964. It ceased operation in 1966, with the last recorded event a scram on January 13, 1966. The plant was dismantled between 1967 and 1969, and the remaining radioactive structural components were entombed in the reactor vessel under sand and concrete.
