The Ringhals nuclear power plant is on the Värö Peninsula in Varberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, about 65 km south of Gothenburg. Unit 1 is a boiling water reactor supplied by ASEA-Atom, and Units 2 to 4 are Westinghouse pressurized water reactors.

The site was planned from 1965. Units 1 and 2 were ordered in 1968 and began construction in 1969. Units 3 and 4 were ordered in 1971 and began construction in 1972. The units were connected to the grid on August 17, 1974 (Unit 2), October 14, 1974 (Unit 1), September 7, 1980 (Unit 3), and June 23, 1982 (Unit 4). Unit 2 was permanently shut down on December 31, 2019, and Unit 1 on December 31, 2020.
