Its plutonium production reactors went into operation in 1955 (EI-1), 1958 (EI-2), 1961 (ADE-3) and 1963 (ADE-2). A radiochemical plant started up in two stages in 1961 and 1962. The last plutonium production reactor was shut down in 2008. On June 8, 2021, first concrete was poured for the BREST-OD-300 lead-cooled fast reactor, which marked the official start of its construction.
