About This Site
Written by NukeWorker from public records: facts that do not change. Operator, status and capacity come from the live data elsewhere on this page. Sources: KEDO: the light-water reactor project; NTI: Geumho-jigu light water reactor site.
Shinpo (Kumho) on North Korea's east coast was the site of the two light-water reactors that the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) was to build under the 1994 Agreed Framework, in exchange for North Korea freezing its gas-graphite reactors. Ground was broken in August 1997, and the first concrete for the reactor buildings was poured in August 2002.
