Construction began on 18 April 1985. All three units are pressurized water reactors of Mitsubishi design. Unit 1 was connected to the grid on 6 December 1988, Unit 2 on 27 August 1990 and Unit 3 on 20 March 2009, with commercial operation following in 1989, 1991 and December 2009. When Unit 3 was shut down for inspection on 5 May 2012, none of Japan's 50 reactors was generating power.
