Construction began on 17 August 1979. The plant has a single three-loop pressurized water reactor designed by Siemens. The reactor first reached criticality on 14 May 1988, was connected to the grid on 23 May 1988, and entered commercial operation on 6 August 1988. A planned second unit was cancelled before it was completed.
