Trojan Nuclear Plant was on the west bank of the Columbia River in Columbia County, Oregon, near Rainier and about 30 miles north of Portland. Portland General Electric built and operated it, with a single Westinghouse pressurized water reactor.

Construction began on February 1, 1970. The unit connected to the grid in December 1975 and entered commercial operation on May 20, 1976. It closed permanently in 1992 after repeated cracking of steam generator tubes proved too costly to repair, and in January 1993 the utility announced it would not restart the plant. Spent fuel was moved to dry storage casks in 2003. The reactor vessel was removed in 2005 and buried whole at the Hanford Site in Washington, and the 499-foot cooling tower was imploded on May 21, 2006.
