Construction of Unit 1, a 357 MW boiling water reactor, began on 24 November 1966. It was connected to the grid on 16 November 1969 and commissioned on 14 March 1970. In March 1981, a leak of 16 tons of primary cooling water from Unit 1 was covered up for about forty days. Unit 2, a 1,160 MW pressurized water reactor, was connected on 19 June 1986 and commissioned on 17 February 1987. Unit 1 was permanently shut down on 27 April 2015. In May 2013 an expert panel concluded that Unit 2 sits above an active fault.
