Breaker-to-Breaker Runs
11 runs
?
Breaker-to-breaker runs measure continuous operation between refueling outages using a cycle-adjusted threshold (90% of cycle length minus RFO duration). An active streak means the unit has been running continuously since the last refueling with no trips to 0% power.
Surry 2 has logged 11 breaker-to-breaker runs, continuous stretches from one refueling to the next with no trip to zero power. Its longest ran 529 days, and its runs average 502 days.

It has two Westinghouse three-loop pressurized water reactors. Construction began on June 25, 1968. Unit 1 entered commercial operation on December 22, 1972, and Unit 2 on May 1, 1973. On July 27, 1972, two workers were fatally scalded by a steam release from a vent line. On December 9, 1986, a steam explosion in the non-nuclear part of Unit 2 injured eight workers, four of whom later died. A tornado struck the plant's electrical switching station on April 16, 2011, disabling primary power.
