Construction began on September 25, 1968. The unit was licensed in December 1976, first connected to the grid on January 30, 1977, and listed as commissioned on March 13, 1977. In September 2009 it went offline for refueling, steam generator replacement and a power uprate, and work on the containment wall caused concrete delamination. The unit never returned to service, and in February 2013 its owner announced that the plant would be permanently shut down. PRIS records the permanent shutdown date as February 5, 2013.
